Captain's Corner
Club Report
Good afternoon golfers

Today is a reminder that it is winter and that conditions will be wet and cold for a few more weeks yet.

A great reminder to follow all paths and to stay away from wet areas as defined.  No carts and no trundlers through the ropes.

Remember too to be careful on our raised greens and banks and always wear appropriate footwear.  Good grip is necessary at this time of year.

While I see lots of big divots on the course I also see lots of sand in divots from members doing their best to keep the course in good repair.  Please also be vigilant on the greens and look for plugmarks that need attention.  Fixing these when you come across them helps the green staff maintain our greens in best condition.

Last Friday was a big day at the course which was very welcome.  It was good to see lots of members using the opportunity to plays some golf and we had nothing but good comments from our visitors.  A big thankyou to Denise and the clubhouse team for their efforts.  The bacon butties were a hit.

Despite the weather there is plenty happening around the club right now.  The Bertram Cup has reached Semi-Final stage, the Club Captains Foursomes had their first outings, and the "futures" keeps going from strength to strength.

And, we have some stuff coming up too.

Let's get to it.

1. Rigarlsford Trophies Event

One of the conditions stipulated by Rose about this event is that there must be no entry fee.  So it is free to enter.

The event will be held on Saturday 27 July with a 10am tee time (multi tee) and the booking sheet has been amended to reflect the need to keep the course clear for the event.

There are two trophies up for grabs, The Ken Rigarlsford Trophy (for men) and the Rose Rigarlsford Trophy (for the women).

This year will be special as Rose's grandchildren are flying to Wellington to join her.  We should do our best to honour their attendance with a field to match.

Remember that we are all good enough for any event.  The handicap system means that we all play as equals.  So, don't be shy.

And, come on to some of our "futures" members who have course handicaps.   Join in and liven up proceedings.  You never know who you will be playing with and getting to know other golfers is a really good thing.

The next this is how to enter.  Enter online through the website (https://www.karorigolf.co.nz/event-calendar), or by email (clubhouse@karorigolf.co.nz), or you can phone the club (04) 476 7337, or you can use the oldfashioned method of adding your name to the sign on sheet which will be on the notice board in the downstairs foyer, or finally you may contact me at my home email (peck.m@xtra.co.nz).

Entries will close at 4pm on Thursday 25 July so that a random draw may be completed and published.  There will be no post entries.

As they say,  "don't delay - enter today".

2. Club Captains' Foursomes

Everyone looking perfectly happy and focused??

The first of the regular monthly Club Captains' Foursomes was held on Sunday 30 June with four hardy teams trudging the links.

It's really a different game.  All players are playing lots of very different shots (the emphasis being on "lots") but having a great time.

The next event will be on Sunday 28 July and we would encourage all and everyone to grab a partner and come join us.  The last Sunday in every month ending in November will be foursomes day.

Our tee times are from midday (just after the "futures" group) so the bonus is that you get a Sunday lie in before golf.

For the record the Club Captains' prevailed with 36 points (well played Denise) from Dave Coman and Julie Watson on 35.  The silverware will be presented from the best four results from the seven rounds.

Entries can be advised to the club (clubhouse@karorigolf.co.nz) or to my personal email (peck.m@xtra.co.nz).

Anyone looking for a partner should let us know and Denise and I will see what we can do to help you out.

3. Bertram Cup

This competition is at the semi final stage.

The semis feature Ryan du Plessis & Darren Riley vs Ngatau Hemopo & Horn Dim; Matthew Roche & TK Ross vs Sarah McNaughtan & Luanne Cockburn.

Times have been booked for these matches just ahead of the Gaskies group tee time.

Good luck to the last four on making the final.

4. Winter Par

This is an accumulated "par" event with your four best scores across seven rounds counting on from Sunday 7 July until Sunday 25 August.

Enter if you wish to win this "bit of bling"!

Select the event when you print your card on your golfing Sunday.  It is compatible with all other events you may wish to enter.

5. Futures

"Futures" keeps going from strength to strength.

A good field of youngsters on Sunday with a good number away showing the growth of this group.

These young ones are so much fun and add abit of life around the place.

Keep going guys.  Really looking forward to you all getting your handicaps and joining in some of the club events as you might wish.

6. Coaching

Club Champs are coming soon.
Sort your glitches out before them.  What better way than a check up with the swing doctor.  Stephen has really competitive rates for Karori Golf Club members and we must have about the best practice facilities anywhere at the moment.

Go on, book a session, you'll be glad that you did.

7. See you all at the end of the month...

I'm off to Wanaka for a bit of a break and to deal with some stuff down there that needs my close and special attention.

I will keep in touch through the wonders of modern technology but I am looking for a bit of a refresh before coming back to organise the next few events, particularly as we move to our club championships.  Quailfying is not far away (from early September) so get working on your games.

See you all soon.

Ends
