Club Report

Good evening golfers

This is coming to you later in the evening than normal and there are a couple of matters that I want to highlight.

You may have noticed that I am not making announcements about the various regular competitions as those involved know when and where these are happening and we have a good website that has up to date information.  I would encourage everyone to check it out from time to time to see what is happening.  I checked it this evening and it is very user friendly.  So give it a go.

I will however highlight events of importance and announce results as appropriate.

I particularly want to congratulate the finalists in the Holland Cup for a great match on Sunday.

Both finalists had tough matches along the way to the final, and the final produced some good golf with both players shooting under 80 on the day.

For the record Tane Cassidy prevailed in a 2/1 victory over Keith Atkinson.  That's good golf by anyones standards.  Congratulations Tane and well played Keith.

I do want to highlight a competition that has languished for several years now, that being the Templar Cup, a mixed pairs four ball better ball event.

This event will be contested this Sunday 28 April and to date we have seven pairs entered.  There is still time to enter and if you need a partner let me know and I will see what I can do.

Denise Marten (Women's Club Captain) and I have had some cursory discussion about more mixed pairs events which could even include a regular monthly foursomes.  These are always fun and move quickly with players playing alternate shots.  Keep watching.  Denise and I are playing the Templar Cup under the team name "A Brace of Captains".

I won't mention ANZAC Day again, but entries do close at 4pm tomorrow, Tuesday 23 April.  We have 70 in the field right now.  There is still time to enter.

1. Course renovations

These always cause some disruption but congratulations go to TK and his staff for keeping disruptions to a minimum.  Already the greens are showing signs of recovery and growth and we should soon have the benefit of good greens well grassed and groomed.  Also a mention of the volunteers here too.  I know that the President had some nice things to say about their efforts in a recent Friday Flash and I echo his sentiments.  I cannot emphasise enough the difference it made having these people helping out.

There will be further work around the course to improve the playing surface and obviously as we go through autumn keeping on top of grass growth will be a priority.

Again, watch this space.

2. Vets Event

The vets held their event at the club today with 40 people entering the competition.  While I know that they play in divisions (usually) I do not have the divisional results but I do know that the top scorers across the field were; Martin Leung (Karori) 40 points, Alex Lim (Karori) 37 points with two on 36 points, President Mike Suggate (Karori) on countback from Mark Casey (Wainuiomata).

Two's were scored by Graeme Harding (Miramar - hole number 4), George Kosmadakis (Shandon - hole number 4), Georg Murray (Miramar - hole number 4) and Martin Leung (Karori - hole number 6).

Well done to all involved and good to see good scoring following the course renovations.

3. Winter Tee Bookings

Obviously with winter coming up we have reduced the number of tee slots to fit with the hours of daylight.

When we return to daylight savings in the spring we will again expand the tee booking sheet.

A reminder to use the tee booking sheet as it saves any confusion as to tee priority and it is helpful to staff to know who is on the course.

4. Golf this week

Just a reminder that our Women have their day tomorrow, Tuesday 23 April, the Wednesday Competition have their day the next day (tee time 10.30am).

ANZAC Day is on Thursday 25 April and the course will be closed until just after 2pm to facilitate the tournament.

And as mentioned, as well as the normal Sunday Fields we also have the Templar Cup for mixed pairs.  There is still time to enter.

5. Futures Golf (Youth/Junior)

There will be a significant announcement soon (next week hopefully) about this.

Many of you will have seen the purple tee markers around the course.  Feel free if you want to try the tees out (the course is 3688m) and see how you go.  It should be very helpful to our new younger members.

That's it from me this week.

I look forward to seeing many of you bright and early on Thursday morning for what promises to be a very special event.
