When I first joined, I fell straight in love with the beauty of the course but also intimidated. Expensive gear, experienced players, teeing off in front of the clubhouse—it was overwhelming for a rookie. And unfortunately, one early bad experience with a grumpy, unhelpful and dismissive player nearly put me off coming back.
With that in mind, I’d like to help continue to make Karori a place where all are welcome, all members are equal, all feel supported and heard. We are a club—not just men, women, juniors, and staff. So, make yourself heard to me.
Why Now?
I’ve stepped up to the committee at short notice to fill the gap left by the resignation of Graham “Blackie” Black. We recently worked together on his inspired celebration of life member Keith Gaskin.
While I do have a full-time job and can’t put in the same hours as some, President Mark Peck has reassured me that my contributions will still be meaningful.
At the heart of it, this isn’t about me—it’s about giving back to something that has given me so much, and ensuring all members benefit in the way I have
What now?
I’ll be in touch with staff, key volunteers, juniors, the mid-weekers, the nine hole women, and inter club players to understand what matters most to them.
I’ve gone on a bit, but I wanted to set the tone early. I will officially start next week after our youngest daughter’s wedding (where I’ll be ensuring the pace of play is maintained!).
See you out there!
Cheers, Norks
