The big news this week is we surpassed 500 members! We currently have 504, which is 109 more members than this time last year. We also saw our beginner women's golf lessons commence and another hearty effort from our course volunteers. This weekend will see three of our Inter Club teams playing at home (Divs 2, 5 & 9) and our usual junior coaching programmes on Sunday. Next Friday we'll host Collegians Cricket, so please note the limited tee-times available if you're a regular Friday golfer.

9 Hole Ladies

The ladies 9 holers played a medley round on the back 9. It was an extremely gusty day and Trish Titcombe was the winner with a net 34. (Cheers Hilary)

Wednesday Club

Despite the good forecast, only 14 people played in a Stableford competition. Conditions were somewhat worse than forecast but it was only intermittent drizzle. Gerd Warnke prevailed on 39 points from Terry McAlister on 36 points. Three others received a ball for their 35-point scores. Nobody managed to find the 4th green, so nearest the pin will jackpot to next week. Marcus Henry had the only two of the day on the 6th hole. The raffle was won by Ossie with Christopher Pearce taking second place. (Cheers Patrick)

Wednesday Twilight

Thirty two came along to the Twilight competition this week, and the perfect weather conditions made for a high scoring night. Those who got 20 and 21 stableford points collected $5 and $10 vouchers. The winning group started with Terry McAlister on 22 points getting a $15 voucher, Kate Apperley on 23 points ($20) and we had two in first place this week, on 24 points - Ryan Du Plessis and Tim Brosnahan (both winning a $25 voucher). Golf balls went to Jeff Mason for NTP (in the hole) and to Tim Brosnahan, Graeme Couper and Beau Lyttle for getting a 'two'.

Another lovely evening of golf and dinner. Thanks to Jeff Mason on the BBQ; to Brigitte and Ossie for culinary contributions and to Isaac in the kitchen. Thank you also to Geoff Lee for bringing a huge box of peaches to share with everyone at Twilight. See you all next week! (Cheers Gail)

Beginner Women's Golf Lessons

Our beginner women's golf lessons on Tuesday evenings are fully subscribed! It’s been wonderful to see so many women having fun while learning putting skills and getting into the game. Due to the high demand, we’ll be offering another course in the near future.

A big thank you to Maurice Munro for ensuring that the lessons were fun, relaxed, and informative without being overwhelming. His expertise and supportive approach made all the difference!

The course includes 4 x 1-hour sessions at $80 for non-members and $60 for members. If you know any wives, girlfriends, daughters, sisters, friends, or mothers who are interested in learning golf in a fun, friendly environment, please contact   Lauren@karorigolf.co.nz to receive more details.

Call for Volunteers (Again!)

A huge effort went in this week to clear out the overgrown area near the 17th tee box. Thanks to all those that helped out - we hope to get the water flowing freely in the channel again soon.

We have a couple of big months coming up with more drainage work occurring and coring booked for 7-10 April. If you have the time and the inclination, please email president@karorigolf.co.nz and he'll add you to the volunteer e-mail list to receive regular updates. Every little bit helps - even if its giving up a couple of hours to sand and seed tee boxes & fairways!

Green Recycling

If anyone has any green recycling crates laying around taking up space we would gratefully receive them. We sort our glass recycling into colours (so its easy for the recycling driver to empty) and could to with several more. If you have one spare, please either bring to the Clubhouse or leave in the recycling area (the old dairy shed to the right of the Clubhouse as you walk to the practice putting green). Thanks.

500+ Members & Growing

We hit a major milestone this week when we breached 500 members - we currently sit at 504! We've had a massive spike over the last 12 months (+111) most of which can be attributed to our younger members, but also our introductory membership offers. The major category movements are:

  • Junior 18U (+44)
  • Junior 19-25 yrs (+29)
  • 9H Intro (+21)
  • Full Intro (+17)

Given the condition of our course, increasing demand for Stephen and Maurice's coaching expertise, and various introductory coaching programmes underway, we expect to see this growth continue. Thanks to everyone who has be a part of this success - we all have a lot to be proud of.

Do You Have Landscape Skills?

The Course Sub-Committee is keen to know if there's anyone out there with landscaping skills, in particular planting, that might be willing to help with course development. It would be great to have some in-house expertise guide future course work. If you know of anyone, please email David McNaughton (david@karorigolf.co.nz).
