Good Morning.

Another great golfing week.

On Sunday we hosted players from the Diplomatic Golfing Society who joined us in the Gaskies Group.  Thanks to David Hill and his colleagues for the prizes.

Our Junior Pennants teams both played on Sunday.  Reports below.

A reminder that for the next 2 weeks on Monday afternoons at 4pm we are hosting College Sport Wellington Golf.  The Front 9 will be closed from 3pm until 6.15pm.  The Back 9 will be open for bookings. Please check the booking sheet and don't just turn up and start in the middle of the field.

We are continuing to find visitors who are playing without having paid their green fees.  The last few people caught have been playing with members. It is unacceptable that members allow their guests to have free round.

There will be more course marshalling taking place over the next few weeks.

The Greenkeepers and Volunteers have been doing a great job clearing some existing drains to ensure in the winter the water will flow where we want it to.  They will be bringing a digger in soon to complete this work.  Well done guys

Division 2 at Home to Martinborough

Division 5 at Home to Carterton

Division 9 at Home to Trentham

Division 12 away to Judgeford

Terry McAllister has kindly offered to marshall while interclub teams are playing so we can keep the pace of play at a reasonable level.  Time to complete 18 holes should not be more than 4.25 hours

Junior Pennants

Both our teams played on Sunday 23 February.

Our 18 Hole Team played a tough home team at Boulcotts Farm. A clean sweep by the home team belied some tough fights by James Bigwood and Ben Willocks down to the final holes. Slick greens made for some tricky putting. Team is looking forward to a home match next weekend!

Our 9 Hole Team had their second match of the season against Boulcott's Farm at Paraparaumu Beach. We welcomed Elliot Pegg for his first interclub game. Lots of fun and good experience gained for the team. They came away with a 3-3 draw, with Will Lyall and Elliot taking their four ball, and Will and Jack Boyle also taking their singles.

Penalty Area Options.

If a players ball is a penalty area they have the following options

  1. Play the ball as it lies for no penalty
  2. Take penalty relief according to rule 17 - 1 stroke penalty
  3. Take penalty relief by dropping the ball in the Drop Zone if one is provided - 1 stroke penalty.  (At Karori we have drop zones on holes 6, 12, 15 & 18).

Under Rule 17 there are 3 options for taking penalty relief with a 1 stroke penalty :

  1. Stroke & Distance Relief : The player may play the original ball or another ball from where the previous stroke was made.
  2. Back on the Line Relief : The player may drop the original ball or another ball outside the penalty area, keeping the estimated point where the original ball last crossed the edge of the penalty area between the hole and the spot where the ball is dropped (with no limit as to how far back the ball may be dropped). The spot on the line where the ball first touches the ground when dropped creates a relief area that is one club-length in any direction from that point, but must not be nearer the hole than the estimated point where the original ball last crossed the edge of the penalty area
  3. Lateral Relief (Only for Red Penalty Area): The ball may be dropped within two club-lengths of the point where the original ball last crossed the edge of the red penalty area but not nearer the hole.
