This fantastic weather has resulted in another busy week at the club. Tomorrow, we have Senior Inter Club starting (we host the Div 2 & 9 Teams) and on Sunday the Auld Quaich Tournament - entries close at 5pm timorrow. The other big news this week is:

  • We've had our first (in many years) female junior member sign-up. A huge welcome to Catherine Zhang!
  • Our Pro is looking to start-up group junior girls only coaching sessions (see detals below).
  • We have a new Clubhouse staff member - please welcome Cooper Hardy if you see him.

I had the privilege of witnessing two kiwi's - local boy Dan Hillier & Ryan Fox (pictured below teeing up) - take on some of the the worlds best golfers at the Dubai Desert Classic last week - what an amazing event to attend. Both kiwi's were in contention going into the final day, with Dan eventually finishing 2nd & Ryan 10th. Dubai is an amazing city with so much to see an do!

Wednesday Club

This week, 21 golfers played a Par competition in hot and sunny conditions. Graham Crocker was the winner on +5 with Terry McAlister second on +4 (beating Ian Bates on countback). Balls were given down to +2 with a chocolate for those that did not win a prize. Graham Crocker was nearest the pin, but he missed the putt. There were no twos. The raffle was won by Gerd Warnke with Christopher Pearce taking second prize. (Cheers Patrick)

Wednesday Twilight

What a turn out at Twilight this week! Amazing weather, and that prospect of amazing golf, brought 36 golfers and one blackberry picker out to play!  For those average golfers, who scored a mere 20 stableford points, there was the reward of a golf ball. Then, those who were slightly more than average (21 points) got a $5 voucher!

The winners this week: Phil Apperley and Megan Lewis on 22 points ($10 voucher); Paulo Fuiomo on 23 points ($15); Terry Bastion (using his many years of course knowledge!) and Martin Binks on 24, yes 24 points ($20).....leaving $25 for the outstanding winner for this week's Twilight, Karen Simcox, with an outrageous 27 stableford points! (should have been playing for real money :)).

Golf balls for twos: Tim Brosnahan on #4; Stu Boston, Eric McCauley and Pete Alkema on #6 and NTP: Gail Kirkland (desperate to win at least something....) What a great summer night!

Another big thanks to everyone who makes this possible: Dick Borgdoff (and friends) for stepping up to BBQ again for a crowd; to Karen, Brigitte and Ossie for beautiful sides and sweets and to Isaac on bar and clean-up duty! Finally a major announcement, that Twilight's annual 'curry night' is being held on Wednesday 12 March. This "Makara meets Madras" experience is not to be missed, so book it into your diaries now!! We will be 'curry planning' over the next month. See you all next week :)  (Cheers Gail)

Clubhouse Volunteers

Our Ladies Club Captain, Denise Marten, is looking to establish a 'House Sub-Committee' to promote and improve the fare and service we all wish to enjoy after golf. She's also seeking a pool of volunteers to help with bartending and food service, particularly during our busy periods, and provide the staff with the level of support they require on occasions to satisfy heavy demand.  Please let Denise know if you're open to helping out (denise@karorigolf.co.nz).
