Karori Junior Golf - Coaching Programme
This Sunday, 20 October the first of the "Futures" coaching programme commences. The programme is fully subscribed, with 45 children and young persons of varying ability signing up to an eight week programme to learn and improve their golf.
Stephen Wood (Golf Professional) and Maurice Munro (Golf Coach) will be running and supervising the event. They are being ably assisted by Clayton Willocks and will draw on the efforts of a number of volunteers to assist.
For the next eight Sundays, Holes 1 - 9 will only be available to the Coaching Programme participants between 1:30/2:00 - 4:30/5:00pm. Timings vary depending on which groups are playing the course each week. The practice facilities (practice fairway and putting green) will also be for the exclusive use of the programme from 3:00 - 4:30pm. There will be signage and other evidence of this activity.
It is really important that everyone wishing to play mid-afternoon golf on a Sunday calls into the clubhouse and checks-in. Those wishing to tee-off after 1:30pm will still be able to play eighteen holes, but, starting from number 10 when space in the field allows. Those playing through from the front 9 have priority and right of way. Anyone who catches up with any of the futures players as they complete their activities will need to exercise patience and allow them priority until they clear the course.
The programme will end for the summer school holidays and recommence in Term 1, 2025.
This is an exciting development for the Karori Golf Club demonstrating a strong commitment to junior golf. The benefits for the club will become evident in more new members (not just junior members), our young members becoming involved in WGI Inter Club Golf (some may aspire to representative status depending on their progress), more activity in the clubrooms and the like.
A big thank you to Clayton Willocks for the foresight to develop this initiative, Stephen Wood and Maurice Munro who are supplying their time free of charge and to the parents and supporters who are encouraging and supporting these young people.
If you wish to raise any concerns, please direct these to me in the first instance.
