  • Women's Strokeplay Champs - Sun 20 Oct:  There will be two Divisions - Silver 0-19 HCP and Bronze 20+ HCP. All 18 Hole women members are strongly encouraged to participate. It will be one gross round with winners eligible to compete in the Champion of Champions organised by Wellington Golf.

  • She Loves Golf Event - Tue 29 Oct 5pm: We will be running an introductory session for women interested in learning to play golf. Cost $5, all equipment provided and a free drink with nibbles afterwards. Please encourage any women who might be interested to come along. Register interest by emailing denise@karorigolf.co.nz

Wednesday Club

  • Conditions were difficult for the 16 golfers, with a blustery wind albeit no rain. Alex Lim prevailed in the Par competition with +3 from Tim Brosnahan on +2. Balls were also given to Grame Crocker (+1) and Matthew Everett (all square). Matthew also got a ball for his two on the 2nd, as did Christopher Pearce for his two on the 6th. Terry McAlister was nearest the pin but had to pay the pig for his missed putt. Graham Crocker won the raffle and Matthew was second. (Cheers Patrick)

Wednesday Twilight

  • Our Twilight competition kicked off on Wednesday evening with a really great turnout of 19 golfers, including three new faces. Perfect conditions ironically made high scoring difficult, but not for everyone as Phil Apperley ran away with first place and the top score of 23 stableford points (despite not playing any golf for a few months!). A Dunedinite, Angela McCarthy, who was up visiting, took second place with 20 points, with Ossie and Pete Alkema coming third with 19 points. The one and only Keith Gaskin was nearest the pin on hole #4.

  • A big thanks to John Stubbe, who is not yet ready to play 9 holes but kindly came out to Twilight and cooked dinner. Thanks also to Brigitte and Ossie for their wonderful salad and dessert, and to Isaac for doing a great job in the kitchen. A fantastic start to this season’s Twilight golf – come along next week! (Cheers Gail)

Call for Help - 'Adopt-a-Hole' Initiative

We now have eight of 18 holes adopted - thanks so much to the volunteers. Can you help? Between now and the City of Wellington Classic on 02 Nov 24, it involves:

  • Organising a small group (2 - 4 members)
  • Adopting a Hole (1 - 18)
  • Repairing divots/pitch marks from tee block to green (this could be done each time your group play your adopted hole)
  • Collecting sticks under trees & placing in a pile
  • Other hole specific tasks as required

Any volunteer support would be a huge help. If you're willing and able please email me: TK@karorigolf.co.nz.

Course Toilets

We had 'promised' to do some gibbing & painting to tidy up the toilets on the course up over winter, however the greenskeepers have been too busy maintaining and improving the course (as we can all see from the excellent playing conditions). We now seek assistance from any members who may be builders or handy men/women. The club will of course provide all the materials. If you can help, please contact TK.

Divots & Pitch Marks

This was the damage caused by someone practicing on Hole 16 this week. This is unacceptable and we need your help to curb this type of behaviour. We ask our members to please:

  • Refrain from practicing on the course – use the practice area
  • Replace your divots or fill with sand (i.e. carry a sand bucket)
  • Repair your pitch marks
  • If you see an unrepaired divot or pitch mark - please repair
  • If you see someone not complying with the above - have a polite word & let the staff know.

Extended Summer Opening Hours (Tuesday & Wednesday)

We are delighted to announce the Clubhouse will have extended Summer opening hours on both Tuesday and Wednesday nights. We have listened to our members who regularly play 9-holes after work and enjoy a refreshment and bite to eat afterwards. Please support this initiative by returning to the Clubhouse after your round. Tuesday will commence after the school holidays on 15 Oct (and be trialed through until Christmas), and Wednesday commenced this week.

Have you seen this Cup?

It's the senior stroke play trophy which has disappeared from the clubhouse. If anyone is holding on to it would they please return it.  Last year's champion returned it to the club and it just vanished. It's got to be somewhere.
