Call for Help - 'Adopt-a-Hole' Initiative
We've had a modest response so far - 6 of 18 holes have been adopted. Huge thanks to those that emailed me. I'm after help with some of the important but 'lighter' duties required to get the course in tip top shape for the City of Wellington Classic on 02 Nov 24. Between now and the Classic, it would involve:
- Organising a small group (2 - 4 members)
- Adopting a Hole
- Repairing divots/pitch marks from tee block to green (this could be done each time your group play your adopted hole)
- Collecting sticks under trees & placing in a pile
- Other hole specific tasks as required
Any volunteer support would be a huge help. If you're willing and able please email me: TK@karorigolf.co.nz.
Machinery
You may have noticed the greens are a bit hairy & slow at the moment. This is due to a number of machinery breakdowns. Our greens mower units are getting sent away next week to be repaired. This process has about a 10 day turnaround, so please bare with us. I will make the most of this unexpected opportunity to apply a preventative fungicide and a couple of soil conditioners. Our aging roller is also being undergoing maintenance but should be up and running next week.
Divots & Pitch Marks
A quick note about keeping our course in great shape. Our greenskeepers work hard to keep the course in the best condition possible throughout the year, but they need our help. We all must do our part to take care of and respect our course. We ask our members to do just a few simple things:
- Replace your divots or fill with sand (i.e. carry a sand bucket)
- Repair your pitch marks
- Refrain from practicing on the course – please use the practice area
- If you see an unrepaired divot or pitch mark - please repair
- If you see someone not complying with the above - have a polite word & let the staff know.
Cart Use
For the forseeable future, when cart use is allowed, they must stick to the fairways. If your ball is in the rough, please park on the fairway and walk to your ball. This will stop the wetter areas on the course from being damaged.
