Captain's Comment

I am encouraged by the number of new members joining and a big thanks to the staff for being so welcoming of them.

We should all do our bit to encourage our new members to join in and get involved in club activities.  Later on under competition news I highlight the place of Gaskies as a way for everyone in the club to enjoy weekend golf at the club.  The "card"draw is a very good way of mixing everyone up so we are always playing with someone new.

It's also wonderful to see some Kiwi Golfers Flying the Flag high, none more so than Lydia Ko who blitzed the recent Kroger Queen City Championship on the LPGA Tour, putting her in second place to Nelly Korda on the "Race to the CME Globe" the season ending championship for the top sixty women golfers over the LPGA season.

Lydia is a beacon for New Zealand golf, particularly women's golf, and I'm looking forward to our women members looking to build on this success in attracting more women to play golf and ultimately to join the club.  From this sort of activity we all win.

Enjoy your golfing week.

Club Champs

…now down to four!

There have been a number of interesting results from the quarter finals which see some interesting match-ups for this coming weekend's semi finals.

Once again tee time have been reserved and there is a reminder that this week is the last week when it is permissible to play the match on or before the day of the finals.  The final must be played on the day.

Once again tee times have been loaded for Sunday and you all should have received notice of your tee time.

Plate semifinals are also loaded and the same information applies.

Other Competition News

Club Champs have necessitated the disruption of some of the regular groups, but Gaskies which is an "all comers invitation" will have tee slots from 9.13am.  This is a great way for new members to get involved in the club.  Everyone welcome.  Be at the picnic table by just after 9am for the card draw.  Pairs are mixed so you never know who you will be playing with.  Come along and get to know people in the club.

Our "Futures" members will have a second attempt at their event after the weather intervened on Sunday.  Good luck to all our youngsters who are contesting their own cup.

And a reminder that Denise will be announcing a Womens Club Championship Event to take place in October.  Watch this space.

Finally, despite the wet weather the green staff are making good progress on the course.  A reminder that at some stage TK will be requiring volunteers and a call for help will go out.

That's all from me for this week in Melbourne.  I'll be back on the 30th in time for the Club Champ Finals.

City Of Wellington Classic

On 02 Nov 24 we will again host the City of Wellington Classic - our preeminent annual tournament. It is played in two Men's Divisions and a Women’s Division. It is open to all and entry fee is $40 for Karori Members. There are some great prizes to be won! All prospective and current interclub players should prioritise this event.

Tee-Block Renovations

This week TK and the crew will be coring, sanding and seeding all tee blocks and surrounds. Please give way if you happen upon them while playing. TK may need a bunch of volunteers to assist. Anyone who is available at short notice should let me know as soon as possible at clubcaptain@karorigolf.co.nz.

Cart Use

For the forseeable future, when cart use is allowed, they must stick to the fairways. If your ball is in the rough, please park on the fairway and walk to your ball. This will stop the wetter areas on the course from being damaged.

Committee Member – Nomination Forms

With the AGM looming on 07 Dec 24, nomination forms for committee members are now available from the noticeboard. There will be several changes to the committee and members are asked to consider what they can contribute to the club as we look to raise revenue and increase member services. The committee consists of President, Vice-President, Club Captain, Women’s Club Captain, Treasurer and six committee members. It would be great to get a full committee table again!
