Captain's Comment

It’s really encouraging to see a good level of competition in all Club Champs divisions. Spring growth is evident, and the grass is now growing at a great rate. The rough that was cut on Friday had grown a good few millimeters by Sunday. At any rate it was easy to find lost golf balls in everything but the worst shots.

You will also see that the style has changed.  DotGolf has enhanced their communication technology and Clayton has managed to master the new look.  Many thanks Clayton for bringing us up to date.

Club Champs

…and then there were eight!

The first Match Play round of Club Champs was completed on Sunday with some really close results. The Senior Division went with form except for the “staff match” where William McNaughtan defeated Isaac Henry. No worries, Isaac, you’re young enough and your day will come! In the Intermediate Division Wayne Cook needed extra holes to defeat Graeme Couper at the 19th. In the Junior A Division Gail Kirkland missed a chance to win it all at the 18th, eventually going down to perennial stalwart Horn Dim at the 19th. In an absolute “ding dong” battle, Geoffrey Lee took twenty holes to account for Garth Mickell and Matthew Everett defeated Phil Goodwin at the 19th. The closest match in the Junior B Division saw David Petersen win 1-up over Kevin Kane. Terry Bastion and Thomas Milicich had walk-throughs, and they will meet in the quarter finals. The draw for this Sunday is posted on the booking sheets; Club Champs tee off first, followed a bit later by the Plate matches.

You all should have received notice of your tee time this Sunday. You may of course play at anytime on or before Sunday, and I encourage this if possible. Best of luck to all.

Placing Rule

If the rain “will stop” I will remove the one club length placing for this weekend, replacing it with 15mm through the green until such time as the ball is not picking up excessive mud. A drop for abnormal conditions will remain. Please note, this is not natural roughness but rather from the likes of animal scrapings or machinery damage. A drop from stones is always permitted where the stone is likely to damage your club, except in a penalty area. Stones that cannot be removed without the ball moving are just bad luck. You can choose to play the ball where it is or take a penalty drop.

City Of Wellington Classic

On 02 Nov 24 we will again host the City of Wellington Classic - our preeminent annual tournament. It is played in two Men's Divisions and a Women’s Division. It is open to all and entry fee is $40 for Karori Members. There are some great prizes to be won! All prospective and current interclub players should prioritise this event.

Tee-Block Renovations

This week TK and the crew will be coring, sanding and seeding all tee blocks and surrounds. Please give way if you happen upon them while playing. TK may need a bunch of volunteers to assist. Anyone who is available at short notice should let me know as soon as possible at clubcaptain@karorigolf.co.nz.

Weather & Carts

With heavy rain on Sunday night and today the course once again is very wet. This will make it most unlikely that carts will be permitted for a few days. The weather is forecast to improve midweek and continue for the weekend. Our greens are looking great just ten days after their coring. Good effort guys.

Please Check-in Before Your Round

As a courtesy, please let the clubhouse staff know that you have arrived for your tee time. It's Om to just rock up for a game, but please let staff know that you are on the course to guard against any course clashes. And why not call in for a brew and a chat before heading home. You never know who will be around and it’s a pleasant way to end your day.

Green Fee & Concession Card Increase

Effective immediately, rates for “Green Fees Playing with a Member” have increased to $40 on Weekends and public holidays, and $30 on other days (specials aside). The ten trip concession card will also increase to $350.

Committee Member – Nomination Forms

With the AGM looming on 07 Dec 24, nomination forms for committee members are now available from the noticeboard. There will be several changes to the committee and members are asked to consider what they can contribute to the club as we look to raise revenue and increase member services. The committee consists of President, Vice-President, Club Captain, Women’s Club Captain, Treasurer and six committee members. It would be great to get a full committee table again!
