Captain's Corner StopPress
Course Renovations

Good morning golfers

It's good to be back and I am most impressed at the work our green staff have been doing in very trying conditions through the last weeks of winter.

With a bit of spring flush and good luck we should see a good strike of grass and our fairways greening up nicely.

While I always emphasise the need to replace divots and care for the course, it was nice to see on Sunday that sand buckets are being carried and are being used.  Thank you to everyone for your help in this regard.

On to the "StopPress" report.

A fuller report will be sent later this week as there are a couple of exciting things going on.

1. Course Renovations

Once every six months or so the greens get cored and that time is right now.

Inevitably it involves some disruption to our golfing calendar and also provides a difficult period when the greens are slow and bumpy as they recover form the renovation work.

This work is always weather related and spring brings challenging weather conditions.  It does look as if we will get weather delay this week but to get the greens right this is simply inevitable.

The greens will be cored on Tuesday but they are likely to be too wet to sand, so if the weather forecast is correct then sanding will start on Wednesday and go on into Thursday and possibly Friday.  Consequently it is highly likely that very little, if any, golf will be able to be played on the course until the weekend this week.

We will keep you informed and TK always tries to get a nine open as soon as possible once renovations have commenced.  Patience needs to be exercised as the staff and volunteers do what they can in the circumstances.

Any inconvenience is regretted.

2. Volunteers

Those of you who have volunteered for duty on Tuesday and Wednesday, it's still on unless I hear otherwise from TK tomorrow morning.  I will message you all early morning in that case.

The greatest need tomorrow morning will be to get the corings off the greens.  If the forecast is correct it may not be possible to start sanding but TK will make that assessment in the morning.

Please remember, sturdy footwear, gloves and a waterbottle.

Lunch is provided by the club.

We start lifting cores at 7am so I hope to see a good number of you there at about that time.

Please meet at the club house.  We will go from there.

Ends:

More later.
