Good afternoon golfers

 

This report is going to be short and sweet.  I may have some supplements during the week but for now I'm only going to cover upcoming events and club happenings interspersed with a few results.

 

Sunday past Matts Mob held the inaugural playing of the "Goat".  Seventeen intrepid golfers fronted the starter on a blustery Makara morning.

 

 

There were a few likely lads, and Gail, accompanied by a well behaved pooch but there could only be one goat at the end of the day.

 

That turned out to be Ciaran O'Kelly, a good Irish lad.

Matts Mob are one of the groups who through their own efforts provide finance and ideas for many of the ammenities we have around the course.  A good example is the practice nets but that is not all.  Similarly the Women, Shirties, The Wednesday Competition and Twilight all add their efforts for the benefit of the club too.

 

'Goat' on Sunday was a good way to remember all that these groups do.

 

As well, Maurice Munro continues his coaching on Sundays.  I caught up with him taking his final session and we chatted for a moment about how it was going.  While it is the first effort to provide coaching for members that we have run for many a year now, he is concerned that Juniors are not taking up the coaching opportunity.  At present there is no way to tell why this is so.  Maybe some of the Juniors and or their parents could let us know.  Feedback is very welcome.

 

We will see how this Sunday goes when the 'students' have a four hole ambrose playing lesson on the course.

 

Juniors will tee off at 10.16am, Women at 11.05, and all others at 11.54.  Let's hope these bookings are well supported this Sunday.

 

At any rate, he has made a start and now we have to find out what will work and build on this superb effort on his behalf.

Entries are trickling in. 

 

The Diplomats Gofling Society are holding their season opener at our golf course on Saturday 24 February, Tee Time 11am.  The course will close at 8am to enable the tournament to proceed unencumbered and will not reopen for casual golf until after 2.30pm.

 

So let's pack the course for this event.  There is nothing better than a full clubhouse at the conclusion of a golfing event.

a) Our mid week women, both 18 and 9 hole golfers have their program tomorrow Tuesday.  Come along and get involved. 

 

 

Be at the clubhouse by 10.15am for the disc draw.  Tee time is 10.30.

 

Please remember that roadworks are happening in Karori so leave in plenty of time to make the 10.15 cut off. 

 

$5 pays for the competition of the day and buys a raffle ticket.

 

Everyone welcome including affiliated visitors.

 

 

 

This is a really fun event.  One or two people who have been identified as being interested in getting further involved in the Karori Golf Club events may like to try out twilight.  It's 9 holes of golf from the yellow tees with super friendly rules, and the golf is followed by a gourmet barbecue.  Come have some fun as we look forward to the weekend just around the corner.

 

 

Our non inter club golfers play round three of the Autumn Cup.  Make up your own groups and enjoy the day with fellow golfers.  There is a Trophy to be won here so come try and get it. 

 

Division 5 Inter Club Team will be playing at Karori this weekend teeing off at 8.06am.  Please note the course will be marshalled to ensure that play proceeds at a reasonable pace.

 

 

Shirties, Matts Mob and Gaskies all support Sunday Club Day.  Come along and get involved.  Gaskies are particularly welcoming of new members or anyone who is without an organised tee time.  Affiliated visitors are welcome too.  Be at the picnic table by 8.45am for the card draw before we tee off at 9.06am.  You will likely be playing with someone new every week.  Everyone welcome.

 

This Sunday the Women and Men have a trophy up for grabs for our older members.  Women members over 50 will be playing Ayers Cup and our men over 50 will be playing for the Nes Beard Trophy.  The card printer will let you know if you are eligible.  If you are you may select the competition when you print off your card on Sunday.

 

Other events happening include various women's eclectic events, the Summer Eclectic open to all comers, The Miners Arms which still has a number of teams yet to complete their final rounds. 

 

 

Enter online.  There is a $25 entry fee all of which goes in to the end of season playoff prizes.  The top 19 golfers over the course of the year culimnating on the last day of November will be the "horses" contesting the shootout.  This event is a bundle of fun, so get your entry in. You may pay your entry in the club house but please ask the staff member taking your entry to code the payment to Shootout.

 

 

This round Division 2 are away to BFHGC, Division 5 are at home to Judgeford, Division 9 are away to Royal Wellington, and Division 12 are away to Kapiti.

Last weeks results saw Division 2 win 9 - 6 over a strong Trentham Team, Division 5 gain a credible 5.5 points away to BFHGC, Division 9 (at home) draw 7.5 - 7.5 with Te Marua and Division 12 got 2 points away to Titahi Bay.

 

It's early days yet but all teams are looking very competitive in their divisions.

 

Thanks to all players and their captains for such a smooth start to the season.

 

 

The Winner of the GOAT was Ciaran O'Kelly 36pts from Michael Weaver and Mark Peck on 35pts.

 

 

The Winner was John Timperley (40pts) from Gary Wellbelove (38pts), Saint Kennach (37pts) and Ciaran O'Kelly (36pts).

 

Best of the Women on 33pts were Denise Marten, Brigitte Boenisch-Brednich and Marcosa Santos.

 

 

There were no finishers in this event.  Better luck in the next round.

 

 

The winner of the February Monthly Medal, winning the Medal, Entry in to the Top Dog Playoff in December, and a sleve of Tietlist Golf balls is John Timperley with a nett 66; from Gary Wellbelove 68, Victor Diem 68, and Shaun Wakefield 69.
